When Edward left her, all Bella could think about was dying so his absence wouldn't hurt so much. At the time, she didn't understand what he had said. He didn't want her? Didn't love her? The words had crushed her to a point where she had never imagined herself to be before she met Edward. She wasn't normally the type to wish for death, to wish that life would just go away and never return, but when Edward had left her, that's what was foremost on her mind. She thought she would never get rid of that feeling; the feeling of emptiness, the deep despair and sadness that nearly drowned her.
In Edward's absence, she spent a great deal of time with Jacob Black, and had thought, just maybe, she could possibly love again. Of course, thoughts of Edward never truly left her mind, and the love she had for him, had never really left her heart. So it wouldn't have been fair to Jacob, had she tried to move on, because in all honesty, her heart wasn't in it like it should have been. When she thought all hope was lost, and her reason for living had truly vanished – it was reborn again when Alice found her and told her about Edward and the Volturi. She couldn't let him end his life, so she rescued him.
Once they were home again, she surprisingly found herself angry with Edward. Oh, she still loved him more than anything, but she was angry and hurt. It wasn't long before she forgave him though. She couldn't stay mad forever; especially after he explained to her that he thought it was the only way to keep her safe, and that he hadn't meant what he had said. That he really did need her, and want her. Of course, Jacob wasn't very happy that she had so easily gone back to him, especially after the pain that Edward had caused her. So her relationship with him was rocky, at best.
Now she was just trying to get through her last year in high school, trying to deal with Alice's insistence on making wedding plans. It all seemed so surreal to her – after all, only a few short months ago, Edward had no longer been a part of her life. She had just recently half agreed to Edward's desire that they marry before he changed her. She understood why he wanted it to be that way, but she didn't know if she was ready to get married. It was all just …. so new to her, and the idea of it scared her. However, she really couldn't do much about it, except go with the flow, and try to accept what was happening in her life. That was easier said than done.
